Dr. Nicky Jacobsen with the first session on primary care ENT, all about Ears.
Dr. Nicky Jacobsen is a GP Partner at Church Street Practice, Wantage and works as an ENT Specialist GP at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Previously an ENT Registrar for three years, Dr Jacobsen retrained as a GP and has now worked in General Practice for over 15 years. Throughout her GP career, she has maintained a strong specialist interest in ENT, integrating this expertise into her day-to-day practice and continuing to contribute to secondary care out-patient services.
Dr. Nicky Jacobsen will present the first in a three-part educational series on ENT conditions in primary care, with a focus on disorders affecting the ear. This session provides a concise overview of effective history taking, clinical examination, and appropriate investigations for patients presenting with ear-related symptoms such as ear discharge, ear pain, hearing loss, and tinnitus.
Common conditions including otitis externa, otitis media, tympanic membrane perforation, and cholesteatoma will be explored in detail. The presentation will emphasize the key clinical features, red flags, and guidance on when to refer patients for specialist assessment. The session concludes with a Q&A.
Paramedic Education and Support Programme (PESP) for Primary and Urgent Care
The PESP programme aims to support the educational needs of paramedics with a focus on primary and urgent care though it is open to all paramedics.
Further information can be found on the PESP webpage HERE
PESP teaching sessions will be led by GPs who have experience of working with or who employ paramedics in primary care. These live teaching sessions will run over lunchtime with a question and answer session at the end. A recording of the presentation will be uploaded to the College’s Moodle platform, though the Q&A will NOT be recorded.
Further discussion will take place using a community forum. Booking onto the event does not mean you will automatically have access to Moodle, you need to sign up for that separately HERE though you will only need to sign up to Moodle once.
Who can join the PESP community?
PESP is for all paramedics across the UK. Members of the College of Paramedics have free access indefinitely. Non-member access has been funded by NHS England from April 2025 to the end of December 2025.
