• Within the United Kingdom there are 11 million people over the age of 65
• In 10 years this number is projected to rise to 13 million people
• At this time there are more people aged over 65 than there are under 5 years of age; this means you are more likely to interact with a person over 65 than under 5
• The age at which chronic medical conditions manifest is getting younger; this age is currently 62 for men and 61 for women

Course Overview
Our course is designed to provide the participants with the opportunity to experience what it is like to be an Older Adult this is achieved through knowledge acquisition and aging body simulation. The practical elements of the course are provided using a variety of innovative suits that have been developed as a result of long-term research conducted into age simulation. They have been designed to restrict movement, vision and hearing which will give the participant the unrivalled experience of being an Older Adult.
 
Course Content
The physical and mental effects of the aging process on the body.

Medical conditions commonly experienced by the Older Adult including Dementia, Arthritis, Stroke and Heart Failure.

An overview of the physical and mental effects of trauma on the Older Adult.

Individual and group age simulation sessions; a sensory and physical limitation experience.

Refection on the participants daily working practices when interacting with Older Adults.

Course Aim
The SMART course will improve your knowledge of, empathy for, communication to, and your treatment of the Older Adult.

Course Details
The course is delivered over one full day and it can be conducted at your place of work, a suitable venue close to you or at our location in central Herefordshire. Tailored options are available.

Certification
Following successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Tickets for this 1 day course are £75 and members of the College of Paramedics can receive a 10% when booking by quoting their membership number. Tickets can be purchased here.
