The College of Paramedics is delighted to be returning to the Emergency Services show in 2024 and we will be once again offering a full programme of CPD sessions from our seminar area. 

No pre booking is necessary, just come and find us when you arrive at the show to sign up for any sessions you wish to attend.
We will also be offering some membership incentives from our Exhibitor stand so please come and say hello!

Our programme is repeated on both days and includes

Day 1 – 18th September 2024
10:00-10:30 - The Importance of High-Quality CPR: Science and Practice
In this 30-minute CPD session, we will explore the science behind the guidelines and how this can be put into practice to improve outcomes from cardiac arrest.
Presented by Luke Jeyes, Resuscitation Governance Lead, University Hospitals Birmingham

Presenter Bio
Luke has dedicated over 15 years to the field of resuscitation, beginning his career in the Emergency Department, where he honed his skills in acute and emergency care. Ten years ago, he transitioned into the Resuscitation Service, where he has continued to make significant contributions. His expertise extends beyond the hospital setting, as he has an extensive prehospital background. Luke has served as a nurse on the West Midlands CARE Team and the West Midlands Ambulance Service MERIT team, providing critical care in diverse and challenging environments.  As a Resuscitation Council UK and European Resuscitation Council Instructor, Luke is committed to sharing his knowledge and skills with others. He regularly instructs on courses covering adult, paediatric, and neonatal resuscitation, ensuring that healthcare professionals are well-prepared to handle life-threatening situations. Luke's passion for resuscitation and emergency care is evident in his continuous efforts to improve patient outcomes through education and practical application. His extensive experience has equipped him with a unique perspective and a comprehensive skill set that he brings to every aspect of his work.

10:45-11:15 - Leading Through Crisis: The Vital Role of Leadership in Critical Patient Care
Explore the pivotal role of leadership in delivering life-saving interventions for critically unwell patients. Learn strategies to foster effective communication, decision-making, and team coordination during high-stress medical emergencies, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Presenter Bio
Philip has been Military Paramedic for over 20 years, working the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. His specialist interests are in developing advanced practice and major incident management. He has worked as a Paramedic during several operational deployments and on exercise in various locations including high arctic and indo-pacific. More varied roles have included working as a NILO within a UK counter terrorism role and currently as an examiner for the DIMC and Dip MIM with the FPHC, RCS Ed alongside being an instructor member for IBTPHEM. Philip is also Head of Cadre for Royal Navy and Royal Marine Paramedics and works alongside my tri-service counterparts to develop the role of Paramedics within the Military. 

11:30-12:00 - Innovations in CPR: Understanding the wider benefits of mechanical CPR
Explore the benefits of mechanical chest compressions, emphasising the role of cutting-edge technology like the corpuls arm in multiple settings. Learn how chest compressions are only a small benefit offered by mechanical chest compressions devices, and how synchronised therapy can help improve no-flow time.

12:15-1245 - Clinical Practice Updates: Navigating Evolving Standards

Presenter Bio
Lizzy started working for North East Ambulance Service in 2006 as an Advanced Technician and she qualified as a Paramedic 2008. She has predominantly worked in the frontline emergency, urgent, and unscheduled care environment. She has an MSC in Clinical Research and has worked as a Critical Care and Anaesthetic Research clinician in an acute hospital trust and as an Advanced Practitioner providing urgent care. Lizzy led the clinical audit and effectiveness portfolio at NEAS before joining AACE. She works for AACE three days per week, clinically supporting and coordinating the ongoing development of the UK Ambulance Services Clinical Practice Guidelines (JRCALC).

14:30-15:00 - Expanding Pain Management Techniques: Non-Parenteral Approaches for Paramedics
Explore innovative non-parenteral methods for pain relief in pre-hospital care. Discover techniques such as inhalational analgesia, transdermal patches, and intranasal medications, enhancing paramedics' ability to alleviate pain effectively and safely in diverse emergency scenarios.

Presented by Dr Alex Wilson-Evans, Deputy Chief Clinical Officer – Community Operations, St John Ambulance Cymru

Presenter Bio
Dr Wilson qualified as a Doctor from Swansea Medical School in 2017 and currently works within the NHS in South Wales as an Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, Major Trauma and Resuscitation. 
Alongside his NHS work he also volunteers with St John Ambulance Cymru as the National Clinical Advisor for Community Operations and an Event Doctor and with the South Wales BASICS responder scheme MEDSERVE as an Enhanced Care Doctor responding to pre-hospital emergencies on behalf of the Welsh Ambulance Service. He has previously held roles with both Mountain Rescue as a Team Doctor and the RNLI as a Helmsman and Casualty Carer. As well as his medical degree he also hold a degree in Disaster Management and Emergency Planning and worked in the disaster relief and emergency planning fields before qualifying as a Doctor.

12:45 - 13:40 - 360 video - Human Factors in a cardiac arrest scenario - Day 2 only
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our first 360 video based CPD e-learning resource, focusing on the Human Factors in a cardiac arrest scenario.  This project has been created in collaboration with NHS England, Dynamic, and the College of Paramedics.
 
We will be demonstrating the project and will have VR headsets available for anyone wishing to fully immerse themselves in the experience.
