Hosted by Helen Beaumont-Waters, Head of Clinical Development (Primary and Urgent Care), College of Paramedics
Presented by Dr Richard Roope
Thursday 4th December 10:00 -11:00 am
PESP Session 1.7
Cancer is the most common cause of premature death (under 75) in the UK. If we are to address this, we need to be diagnosing cancer as early as possible. First line clinicians play a pivotal role in "picking up" on early signs of cancer, to steer patients to accessing investigations and referral at the earliest opportunity. This session will look at the size of the cancer burden and how we can all contribute to improving outcomes.
Dr Richard Roope has been a Portfolio GP for over 34 years, having trained in Cambridge, London and Oxford, and has had an extended role in cancer for over 20 years, including 6 years as the Royal College of GPs and Cancer Research Clinical Champion for cancer. He is currently the Primary Care Cancer Lead for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and in addition works in the Wessex Rapid Investigation Service and continues to be a member of a number of national and regional cancer committees.
