Independent Prescribing by Paramedics

04/10/2022

The College is pleased to announce that yesterday the Government published their response to the advice from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) on the prescribing of controlled drugs by paramedics.

I would like to thank the members of the Medicines Special Interest Group and wider College teams for their hard work progressing this, we are also grateful of the support we have received from external organisations and individuals.

I would like to remind members that the controlled drugs listed cannot be prescribed until the legislation has been passed by parliament. I am afraid we do not have a time scale for this yet, but I remain in correspondence with NHS England on the matter.

The College of Paramedics will shortly be organising a webinar to answer any questions you may have and to discuss what this means in practice.
