Could You Be a Future Leader of the NHS?

20/02/2023

Qualified Paramedics and those in training are eligible for the Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) Scholars Programme. The HLA is a Health Education England-funded non-profit organisation which runs an annual 12-month extra-curricular programme to train the future leaders of the NHS and prepare them for their future management and leadership responsibilities. This year, we are able to offer full scholarships (worth the full £3,000 cost of the programme). The application process is competitive entry, but those who are successful gain access to a wealth of resources, training and development opportunities.

The HLA provides an excellent opportunity for Physician Associates to develop their leadership skills and enhance their professional portfolio whilst awaiting for General Medical Council regulation.

You can learn more and apply here.

The HLA is approved by The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), is a certified member of Social Enterprises UK, is sponsored by The MDU, commissioned by Health Education England and partnered with the Medical Technology Start-up Medics.Academy. Through our partners at Medics.Academy, we work with institutions across the globe including the World Health Organisation, the UK House of Lords, the UK Government and Amnesty International. Those who complete the programme are eligible to have the qualification recognised with post-nominals from both the HLA (MHLA) and the ILM (ILM level 5- MInstLM).

We have both physical and virtual cohorts. Both groups benefit from everything the HLA has to offer. In-person sessions are based in London, Newcastle, Bristol, Edinburgh, Belfast, Leeds and Amsterdam- but applicants are welcome no matter where you are based.

Nominate others
If you have already had the opportunity to be a part of the HLA Scholar Programme in any of our previous cohorts, please share this opportunity with anyone who you think would benefit from this programme. Please also consider nominating others for the HLA.
One of the key barriers preventing many excellent candidates from applying to join the Healthcare Leadership Academy is simply that they thought they weren't good enough or felt a sense of imposter syndrome. You can nominate up to four healthcare professionals (Midwifes, Nurses, Paramedics, Physicians Associates, Dentists, Doctors, and Students) who in your assessment would benefit most from, and thus deserve to be considered for this opportunity.

Nominate here.
