Join Dr Helen Aoife Iliff, Anaesthetic Registrar and co-author of the 2024 multisociety guidelines, for a focused and in-depth session on airway management in patients with cervical spine injuries. Tailored specifically for College of Paramedics members, this online presentation will explore how the latest evidence and hospital-based best practices can be adapted to the realities of pre-hospital care. Patients with suspected or confirmed cervical spine injuries pose a significant airway challenge, balancing the need for airway control while minimising movement of the spine.

This session will break down the new consensus guidelines and examine what they mean for paramedics in the field. With iGel as the highest-level airway intervention available to most paramedics, the session will explore how to maximise its effectiveness, when and how to escalate, and what adjuncts or positioning strategies can support safer, more effective airway management in these high-risk cases.

Dr Iliff brings a wealth of experience to this session. She is a respected figure in airway management, a member of multiple national guideline development groups, and a former chair of the Welsh Anaesthesia Audit Research and Engagement Network (WAAREN). Her passion for translating complex evidence into clear, practical steps makes this a must-attend event for all paramedics seeking to enhance their trauma care.
