Maternity Safeguarding Within the Ambulance Service

As a Paramedic we play an integral role in raising concerns around safeguarding for newborns however it can be a source of aggression from those we attend. In this event we welcome Claire Sidley-Jenkins who is the safeguarding specialist from London Ambulance Service and brings with her over 14 years as a registered midwife.

This session aims is to improve awareness and management of cases when attending to pregnant women, who are not accessing antenatal care, along with the implications this can have on the newborn from a safeguarding perspective.

We will be exploring the role of the paramedic in recognising and escalating safeguarding concerns when caring for pregnant women including those who have delivered at home unexpectedly.
 
Claire Sidley-Jenkins is a registered midwife by profession and has been qualified for nearly 14 years. 
In May 2021 she joined the London Ambulance Service as the safeguarding specialist for the North East Sector. Prior to this, she was working as a safeguarding midwife at Croydon University Hospital for over 8 years and as part of her role, she was also the lead midwife for young parents (teenage pregnancy).
