The RESearch PARamedic Experience (RESPARE) study
Date: Wednesday 25th May 2022
The research paramedic position is a relatively niche role undertaken by a small number of paramedics who support, deliver and promote research. Research paramedic roles provide opportunities to develop talented researchers who are recognised as vital elements of developing a research culture within ambulance services. The benefits of research active clinicians have been recognised at a national level.
For paramedics the routes into research, and how to establish a research career, are not as clear as routes into other areas of practice and very little has been published about the research paramedic role.
Aim
The aim of this study was to explore the experience of people who work, or have worked, as research paramedics.
This session is sponsored by The University of Edinburgh.
Register
Matt Limmer, Research Paramedic, NEAS
I have worked for NEAS for 14 years and worked in research for 5 years. I was a part time research paramedic and part time paramedic on a DCA. And now work full time in research as I obtained an ARC fellowship award looking at cardio-vascular risk factors in the prehospital environment (in particular AF).
Since joining the research department, I have been involved in working on a variety of projects including national studies and studies set up and run by NEAS.
The NEAS research team have developed a research study looking at the research paramedic role and barriers and facilitators to this position which I will be presenting at this conference.
