College of Paramedics Virtual CPD and Annual General Meeting
College of Paramedics Virtual CPD and AGM - These sessions will be delivered by Zoom Webinar.
On the 19th of July the College is hosting an exciting day of CPD.
Face-2-Face in Birmingham we have two great conferences (see separate listings for the First Contact Practitioner Portfolio Support Event and the Future Workforce Mental Health Project Conference and the College of Paramedics AGM only, for more information) however for those unable to attend in person we have an equally exciting line up of speakers, all built around the annual general meeting.
Starting from 11:30am we welcome Dr Gary Dennis, Consultant Neurologist from Sheffield Teaching Hospital discussing Epilepsy. From a brief overview of the pathophysiology through to examining the diagnosis and available treatments. Dr Dennis brings a wealth of experience and this first session, lasting one hour, promises to be interactive and packed full of take away information.
After our first session we are zooming into Birmingham for the College’s AGM. This is your opportunity to get involved and hear what has been going on behind the scenes at the College of Paramedics.
After the AGM we move onto our second virtual session and hear about two conditions which mimic epilepsy, Dravet Syndrome and Functional Neurological Disorder. Dravet Syndrome is typically characterised by multiple, frequent, treatment resistance and often prolonged seizures. Dravet syndrome is a rare neurological condition which affects around one in every 15,000 people in the UK. Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a brain disorder that can encompass a diverse range of neurological symptoms including limb weakness, paralysis, seizures, walking difficulties, spasms, twitching, sensory issues and more. Anyone of any age can receive the diagnosis. Whilst the symptoms may appear similar to those seen in neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and Epilepsy, and can be just as debilitating, they have a different underlining cause.
