Health Education England has commissioned the development of a Specialist Paramedics (Primary and Urgent Care) Core Capabilities Framework. Development of the framework is steered by a project management group comprising stakeholder organisations such as Health Education England, NHS England, College of Paramedics and Skills for Health. The framework is due for completion by the end of August 2018.
The framework will provide a definition of what a specialist paramedic in a primary care setting can do. It will provide a minimum standard for safe and effective practice within the professionals’ scope of practice e.g.
- for governance – to provide a benchmark for service managers and commissioners and,
- for education and training – to indicate minimum learning outcomes from education and training, linking with the existing College of Paramedics postgraduate curriculum.
The development process will include a review of existing source document (such as relevant curricula, frameworks and guidance) and development of a draft framework ready for wider consultation.
