The United Kingdom Advisory Panel (UKAP) has published guidance on classifying emergency Health Care Workers (HCW) based on Exposure Prone Procedures (EPPs) they may perform and the likelihood of them working in the exposure prone environment. This classification should be used as a guide only, for employers and occupational health to assess the risk of bleedback/iatrogenic transmission from an infected HCW to patient based on their duties in the emergency care setting. This will facilitate HCW EPP clearance, as well as lookback investigations to identify at-risk patients.
