South West CPD Day- New Directions for Paramedic Practice

Date: 24 Jan, 2019

Time: 09.00 - 16.00

Address: Derriford Centre for Health & Wellbeing, Derriford Road PL6 8DH, Plymouth

Event Information

New Directions for Paramedic Practice is the exciting theme for the first CPD event of 2019 in the South West Region. This is a great opportunity to meet with and learn from the experiences of two keynote speakers who are leading innovative healthcare practice in the region.

Simon Robinson, Advanced Paramedic Practitioner with the innovative and award winning Beacon Medical Group, will be leading a session dealing with difficult cases in primary care and sharing experiences from his career pathway.  Simon has worked in primary care since 2015 and was originally recruited after impressing the lead partner with the quality of his patient referrals.  He is the lead for education and development for the urgent care team at Beacon and lead for emergency care training for all practice employees. Simon was formerly a Specialist Paramedic with South Western Ambulance Service and a lecturer-practitioner at the University of Plymouth.

Ray Jones, Professor of Health Informatics at the University of Plymouth, will be introducing paramedics to the work of the EPIC e-health project and discussing the impact of technological innovation in healthcare and its implications for paramedic practice.  Ray has been researching the positive impact of technological innovation on healthcare and health education for many years and has taught and published extensively on the subject.  He regularly teaches paramedics and enjoys the enthusiasm paramedics have for innovation.  This will be a lively and thought provoking discussion, not to be missed!

Plus:  what do we really think about CPD?  Research Paramedic Katie McNee recently completed a study into paramedic attitudes and experiences and will be presenting the results of her research, while National CPD Lead Gary Strong peers into the future to discuss trends and developments in  paramedic CPD.
