Women within the College of Paramedics will be taking over all College channels

To celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March when women all over the world are celebrated for their social, economical, cultural and political achievements, this March women within the College of Paramedics will be taking over all College channels, with various activities planned; from hosting all female panels, to covering an abundance of gender equality related issues and topics, through to celebrating the day with female-orientated content.

IWD has a number of Missions, one of which is the Women at Work Mission, with a goal of forging inclusive work cultures where women’s careers can thrive and their achievements can be celebrated. As part of the College of Paramedics takeover, we are looking for women to feature on our social media channels and website to showcase the huge contribution that women make to our profession.

Here is an example for you;

TRACY NICHOLLS

I have been a paramedic since May of 1998, with time in a number of different roles since then. My joy and motivation have always been the people who work tirelessly to care for patients. Being part of the paramedic profession and contributing to the development of that profession is an honour and privilege.

Mentoring, championing, educating and supporting other paramedics and our colleagues was the first chapter of my career in giving back to those people that inspired me. I then moved into clinical, quality improvement and patient safety work that was the path to me breaking a glass ceiling, as not just a female but as a paramedic; becoming the first registered paramedic in an executive clinical role on an Ambulance NHS Trust Board of Directors in 2018, taking on what was known as a Director of Nursing post traditionally. This was just one example of the growth of the paramedic profession and the impressive and multiple ways in which it has evolved and still is evolving.

As Chief Executive of the College of Paramedics my career remains focused on championing, supporting and improving practice as I support the College and the profession shape its destiny.
