Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) is an NHS England programme designed to improve treatment and care by reviewing health services, and in April 2022 a GIRFT report was published on Stroke services (full report can be read here
). The College welcomes this detailed report and is particularly pleased to see highlighted the importance of effective and efficient management of stroke in the pre-hospital phase. Within the report, the College has been given three recommendations relating to training and CPD opportunities around stroke management (page 16) – a plan on achieving these is currently being drafted. The report signposts to the website www.stroke-awareness.com
which offers free pre-hospital stroke training developed in collaboration with Joe Dent, Lead for Stroke at the College of Paramedics.
